SSISA Sessions: The Hottest Ticket in Town for Runners Who Do Hard Things

When I say the SSISA sessions are the hottest ticket in town, I mean it. It took me nearly three weeks to secure a spot—and it was well worth the wait. Here’s what you can expect when you sign up.

From the moment you step into the training center, you're met with big spaces and even bigger energy, as training groups push through their sessions. The open layout gives our crew the freedom to do what they do best—take up space and bring their loud, unstoppable energy. There's nothing quiet about these sessions. They’ve become so popular that when the sign-up list goes out on a Monday, spots fill up in just three minutes.

So why do we do it?

Every runner needs a few key things:

  1. Consistency. Just keep showing up.

  2. Mental toughness. Because #WeDoHardThings.

  3. A solid shoe rotation. One for long runs, one for speed work, one for daily training, and, of course, a race-day pair. 😊

  4. Discount codes. Hydration and energy supplements don’t buy themselves. 😊

  5. Core stability, mobility, and strength.

And well, point five is where SSISA comes in. Deceptively tough (so deceiving that even Strava didn’t recognize the true effort*), these sessions push your limits and ultimately make you a better runner.

At the end of the day, we show up to SSISA sessions to improve. We push through because suffering is easier with friends, and knowing you’re not in it alone makes all the difference. That’s what MustLoveHills does so well—We sweat. We don’t judge.

What a typical session looks like
What a typical session looks like

Each session follows a rhythm: warm-up, core, strength, cool-down… and then, of course, the obligatory selfie session. 😊 Because if it’s not on Instagram or Strava, did it even happen?

*Side note: According to Strava’s Athlete Intelligence, my session was "mostly spent in the moderate heart rate zone, indicating a controlled, low-intensity workout," with a "relative effort of 27, lower than your typical range." But what does AI know, anyway? I felt like I was dying—this was David Goggins tough.

How hard was it?

In my opinion a solid 8 to 9 out of 10.  The session covers all areas, and you wake up feeling that good sore the next day. But anyone can do it - there are alternatives to every exercise to suit abilities and injuries.

Will I go back?

This is such an amazing opportunity at a world class institution that’s on the cutting edge of sports performance, sports injury prevention, and promoting healthy living.
